Scentscaping

Scentscaping is the new home wellness trend which involves using fragrances to create a particular ambiance or mood within your space. It involves strategically selecting and combining fragrances such as essential oils, candles/wax melts, fresh flowers and diffusers to enhance the overall sensory experience. Similar to how visual elements like colours and decor can impact the atmosphere of a room, scentscaping focuses on the olfactory aspect.

Here are a few key points about scentscaping:

Aromatherapy Room Mist with essential oils

Scent Selection: Different scents evoke different emotions and have unique effects on individuals. For example, lavender is often associated with relaxation, while citrus scents can be energising.

When scentscaping, it's important to choose fragrances that align with the desired mood or purpose of the space. For example in a home office choose an uplifting and energising fragrance to put you in a positive mindset and help you focus.

Another idea is to “zone” different areas of your home, making one room (such as bedroom or lounge) relaxing with floral fragrances and another (such as kitchen) enlivening with for a subtle effect on your wellbeing.

If you use a room for different purposes, for example, your lounge as a home office during the day and down time on an evening, choose two different candles or melts and switch between the two to suit the ambience you wish to create. Here at Flicker and Scent we offer a wide range of fragrances and essential oil blends to suit every mood. To help you choose which fragrance suits which mood take a look at our blend menu

Layering Scents: Just as a painter blends colours to create depth and dimension, scentscaping often involves layering multiple fragrances to achieve a more complex and immersive experience. This can be done using different home fragrance products such as candles, diffusers, or sprays, each emitting complementary scents. Wax melts and candles create a stronger scent than diffusers, but because they use a naked flame cannot be used when you aren’t there. Reed Diffusers add a constant fragrance but not as strong, so one solution would be to have a diffuser in your room for a constant subtle aroma then enhance this by burning some melts or candles when you are in the room. For a quick fragrance burst in an instant use a Room Mist to spritz your space and soft furnishing. All our melts, diffusers, candles and room mists are available complimentary blends so you can layer away using the different products or in two or three different fragrances.. Consider the Space: The size, function, and layout of a space should be taken into account when scentscaping. A larger room may require stronger scents or multiple sources of fragrance to effectively permeate the area. In contrast, smaller spaces might call for more subtle scents to prevent overwhelming the environment. For example wax melts tend to be stronger than scented candles so better to fragrance larger spaces, diffusers are ideal for small spaces such as a bathroom or cloakroom, or near a door so the scent can be picked up as soon as you enter the room.
