Essential Oils v Fragrance Oils

What is the difference?

At Flicker & Scent we offer wax melts and candles fragranced with the option of either essential oils or fragrance oils. One of the questions I am asked quite often is what is the difference between the two? Essential oils and fragrance oils are two types of oils that are used in various products such as soaps, candles, perfumes, and more. The main difference between the two is that essential oils are made from natural materials such as flowers, leaves, and roots of a plant, while fragrance oils are manufactured in a lab.

Essential oils are known for their therapeutic properties and are often used in aromatherapy, while fragrance oils are used primarily for their scent (for example if you want to recreate the aroma of clean cotton or freshly brewed coffee, this can only be achieved with fragrance oils).

Essential oils are extracted from plants through methods such as steam distillation or cold pressing, while fragrance oils are made by combining synthetic and natural ingredients in a lab. Essential oils are generally more expensive than fragrance oils due to the cost of production and the amount of plant material required.

Things to consider

When it comes to choosing between essential oils and fragrance oils, it depends on the intended use and personal preference. Essential oils are a great choice if you’re looking for natural and therapeutic benefits, while fragrance oils are a good option if you’re looking for a specific scent that may not be available to create via essential oils.

It’s important to note that some fragrance oils may contain synthetic chemicals that can cause skin irritation or other health issues. If you have sensitive skin or allergies, it’s best to opt for fragrance-free or products that use natural essential oils. For that reason all the bath salts we make are fragrances with essential oils and not fragrance oils. We only use fragrance oils in candles and wax melts as not in direct contact with the skin. In fact ,one of the reasons I started making candles and melts with essential oils was because I had a friend who suffered from asthma and told me she couldn’t burn melts or candles as they made her wheeze and cough. I made her some with pure essential oils and she absolutely loved them, and did not react at all. So if you suffer from allergies or find fragranced candles can make you wheezy and give you headaches, then opt for essential oils.ake it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Conclusion

It’s important to note that both essential oils and fragrance oils have their own unique benefits and drawbacks. The choice between the two depends on your personal preferences and needs. If you’re looking for natural and therapeutic oils, essential oils might be the better choice. However, if you’re looking for a wider range of scents and fragrances, fragrance oils could be a better option.
